In Netanya, where we are here at the beach, the lifeguard closed his cabin for the day, went off duty and did something very interesting… He blessed the entire crowd for protection over his megaphone, recited the entire Shema Yisrael prayer and said to all on the beach, “Say Amen”. This is just another day at the regular public beach in our Jewish home – a nation that is strong in its diversity as Zev Stub said earlier today (see post below) and also connected to God in small and ordinary ways that are deeply meaningful.
