Yishai studies the text from Chapter 1, Book of Nechemia with the class at Yeshivat HaKotel in Jerusalem in this audio. He first reviews the Ideological, historical, and political introduction to the Book of Nechemia and then goes into the text. The story of Nechemia is about a political leader who sees that life in Jerusalem is physically difficult and even Jews in Israel did not want to live in Jerusalem. Nechemia went against all odds to rebuild Jerusalem throughout his life with incredible tenacity. This section of the book is the Persian chapter in which the people are dealing with a king named Koresh (Cyrus) who calls on the Jews to go up to Eretz Yisrael. When Koresh passes away he is replaced by King Daryavesh (Darius) who is the king that Nechemia is interacting with. The text is in relatively plain Hebrew which makes it more accesible to the modern Jewish reader.Download MP3
